The UTD-8000-CKG is the first watch in RZE's digital lineup to combine two distinct surface treatments on a single case: DLC, which is a diamond-like carbon, the hardest PVD coating available, for a deep blacked-out base, and Cerakote for additional protection and surface character. The result is a case that layers two of the most serious coatings in the watch industry on top of solid Grade 2 titanium. It's lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and now significantly harder than either treatment could achieve alone. The high-contrast digital display runs on a custom UTD-8000 multi-function module with an aquamarine UltraGlow LED backlight. The module is guaranteed for life. If it fails, RZE replaces it. The CR2032 battery runs for more than three years and can be swapped by the owner with a Torx screwdriver. Water resistance is 200 meters. The sapphire crystal has an inner-side super anti-reflective coating. The caseback is screw-secured titanium. It comes on an OD Green canvas strap and ships in the RZE x Toyo Tool Box. Our Take

The CKG is the most technically interesting watch in the UTD-8000 lineup. DLC and Cerakote each do something the other can't. DLC provides extreme molecular-level hardness, Cerakote provides polymer-ceramic surface protection and color flexibility. Then they're stacked with Grade 2 titanium, which is an approach you don't see at this price point. The lifetime module guarantee is the other thing worth emphasizing: RZE is committing to stand behind the digital movement indefinitely, which eliminates the biggest practical objection to buying a digital watch. At $379 in a titanium case with 200 meters of water resistance, a sapphire crystal, and that guarantee, the value case is straightforward. The OD Green strap against a blacked-out case is a purposeful look-this is a tactical loadout watch and it doesn't pretend otherwise.
