Since 1925, Laco has been crafting precision timepieces that honor the legacy of WWII-era Flieger watches. We carry Laco because their commitment to heritage and quality makes them a perfect fit for those who appreciate historically inspired, well-built timepieces.
The Laco Aachen 39 is built on the same platform as the Augsburg but wears a Type B dial, which is the more technically complex of the two classic Flieger formats. Where the Type A is defined by its simplicity, the Type B adds an inner chapter ring and outer minute track that gives the dial more visual depth while keeping legibility exactly where it needs to be. Same 39mm case, same German craftsmanship, genuinely different character. All watches come with a 2 year warranty through Laco.

Our Take
The difference between a Type A and Type B Flieger dial is one of the more interesting decisions in this price range, and the Aachen makes a strong case for Type B. The inner chapter ring adds a layer of visual complexity that the Augsburg doesn't have. It's busier in a purposeful way, the kind of dial you find yourself reading rather than just glancing at. At 39mm the proportions stay excellent, and the riveted leather strap ties it back to the same period-correct aesthetic as the rest of the lineup. If the Augsburg is the purist's flieger, the Aachen is for the buyer who wants a little more going on without stepping outside the genre.
Who This Watch Is For
- Buyers who've looked at both the Augsburg and Aachen side by side and found themselves drawn to the more layered dial layout, that instinct is worth trusting
- Anyone who appreciates that the Type B format is just as historically accurate as the Type A, and represents a different but equally legitimate chapter of Flieger history
- Collectors who want both sizes in the lineup: the Aachen 39 pairs naturally with the Aachen 42 the same way the Augsburg sizes complement each other
- People comparing this to the Augsburg 39: same price, same case, the only question is which dial speaks to you more. Type A is cleaner while Type B has more depth
